Application Timeline: Key Dates for 2026 Intake

Staying on top of deadlines is critical for your application to study medicine in Australia. The most important dates for Thai students applying for the 2026 intake are listed in the university’s official guide.

  • Applications open on 15 February 2025 and close on 15 June 2025.
  • The deadline to submit GAMSAT results is 15 July 2025, while the MCAT results deadline is 25 July 2025.
  • Offers for the Multi Mini Interview (MMI) will be released in mid-to-late August 2025, and the final course offers are released during the week of 6 October 2025.

either the GAMSAT or the MCAT. To be eligible for consideration, you need a minimum score of 50 in each of the three sections of the GAMSAT or a minimum overall score of 492 on the MCAT.

Keep in mind these are minimums, and competitive scores are much higher. Both GAMSAT and MCAT results are valid for up to four consecutive years. For the 2026 intake, GAMSAT results from September 2021 onwards are accepted, and MCAT scores from test dates from 1 January 2022 are accepted.

How Your Application is Ranked

Understanding the selection process is vital. The University of Melbourne uses a two-stage ranking system for the standard pathway.

For Stage 1, your rank to get an interview invitation is based on a 50/50 weighting of your Weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) and your GAMSAT/MCAT Score.

After the interview, you move to Stage 2 for a final course offer. At this stage, applicants are re-ranked with the MMI score being the most significant factor. The weighting is 50% from your MMI Score, 25% from your Weighted GPA, and 25% from your GAMSAT/MCAT score.

For Thai students who choose to study their undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne first, there are special “Guaranteed Entry” pathways into the MD program.

The most significant advantage of these pathways is that eligible students do not need to sit the GAMSAT. The “Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholars” pathway is for top-achieving students who completed an Australian Year 12 or IB in Australia with an ATAR of 99.90 or above; they receive a guaranteed place provided they pass the MMI.

The “Guaranteed Full Fee Entry” pathway is for students with an ATAR between 99.00-99.85. To secure their place, they must maintain a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 75% in their Melbourne undergraduate degree and pass the MMI.
