University of Southampton ตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง Southampton หรือบริเวณ South Coast of England ซึ่งห่างจากลอนดอน เพียง 1 ชั่วโมง 30 นาทีไปทางตอนใต้ การเดินทางจากลอนดอนทำได้โดยทางรถไฟจากสถานีวอเตอร์ลู (Waterloo) เมือง Southampton มีประชากร 234,600 คน โดยเป็นนักศึกษากว่า 50,000 คน เป็นเมืองท่าระดับโลกและยังได้รับการขนานนามให้เป็นเมืองหลวงแห่งการล่องเรือสำราญในยุโรป (Cruise Capital of Europe)

มหาวิทยาลัย Southampton ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1862 เป็นสมาชิกของ Russell Group กลุ่มมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำของอังกฤษที่มีการทำงานวิจัยอย่างเข้มข้นมาเป็นเวลานาน มีวิทยาเขตทั้งหมด 7 แห่ง โดยวิทยาเขตหลัก คือ Highfield Campus ซึ่งมีบรรยากาศร่มรื่น เหมาะแก่การเรียนเป็นอย่างมาก, Avenue Campus, Boldrewood Campus, National Oceanography Centre, Winchester School of Art, Southampton General Hospital และ ทางมหาวิทยาลัยเพิ่งเปิดตัววิทยาเขตใหม่ที่ประเทศมาเลเซีย (Malaysia Campus) ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ EduCity @ Iskandar ห่างจากประเทศสิงคโปร์ไปเพียง 30 นาที โดยวิทยาเขตนี้จะสอนปริญญาตรีด้านวิศวกรรมศาสตร์เท่านั้น
